Motivation letters or cover letters acquaint the potential employers and organizations to a potential employee and see him or her as an asset in their company.  One might have their resume but it is the motivation letter that gives a brief background about the applicant, making him or her look and sound more interesting.  They are able to see one’s writing abilities, how suited they are for the job, and how they can be contacted.

Aside from being an introduction, motivation letters serve to detail one’s experiences and show how well one can communicate. It is therefore, a great challenge since one should write about themselves without sounding self-centred.  This can be accomplished by reflecting on one’s values, comparing these to those of the organization or company, and describe how relative one’s experience will be to the demands of the job.

Important aspects of a motivation letter are the format, organization, and content.  For the format, it should be professionally made.   • The cover letter should be single spaced.

For the introduction, one should start writing down who he is, why he is applying for the position, where he learned about the offer, and more.  He should also include something about his values, goals, and aspirations, and how through his experience he can be an asset to the company.

For the discussion portion, one should try to research as much about the organization so that one will know exactly the qualities of individuals that they need.  One can then use this information to convince the employer that they are the perfect ones for the job.  One should try not to mention everything in the resume though and try to maintain that likable tone.

In closing, one should reiterate the main points in one’s discussion.  It is here that one puts down where and when they can be contacted.  One should not forget to thank the employer for reading the letter as well.
